WORD OF COACH/JEAN-CLAUDE PERRIN:

“Amélie knew to say no”

Sophie DANGER - Monday August 20, 2007 - 15h49

Each week Jean-Claude Perrin reconsiders the outstanding facts of the sport news. He evokes today the decision of Amélie Mauresmo not to take part with US Open.

Jean-Claude Perrin, Amélie Mauresmo chose to prolong her “holidays” and will not take part in US Open…
It should be known that there are not only the physical factors and techniques which are important. There are factors quite as important which milked with the personality, with the psychological factors and which emerge, for the high-level competition, on the motivation. What arrives at Amélie is comforting because it is the proof that she knew to say halt at its head and its body. She does not want, by average outsides, to impose something moreover to them. She decided to take time to blow. What is astonishing, it is that that lasted so a long time without her realizing some. She was saturated a few times ago, but the victories and the fact of being in this world made the decision difficult to take.

It is a courageous decision…
It is very courageous and especially very difficult, because she is always thought that one will remake something of larger. It is as the proof as Amélie knew certainly to say not to multiple temptations of all kinds.

Money?
Money yes, but also sponsors, her own ambition, the classification and products external.

Is this a sign of maturity?
It is a sign of force of important nature. One cannot make it if there is not a very large interior force. Vis-a-vis the money and with glory, one is all more or less friable.

Perhaps Amélie will lose points and plays its place in Masters Cup…
It is not serious if she finds hundredth. Masters Cup is anecdotic in its case. As long as it will have around it people who trust her, it is not a problem. One saw Julie Halard going up thousandths in the sixth place. It is a question of framing and environment above all.

Tennis - US Open (F) - Mauresmo : «Un bien énorme»

Tennis - US Open (F) - Mauresmo: “An enormous good”

Two days after the advertisement of her withdrawal from the US Open, Amélie Mauresmo reconsiders this Friday her decision in an interview granted with L'equipe. The Frenchwoman does not elude any question and explains even in details her “need to empty the head”. While she did not make a precise decision yet on her return to the competition, the 7th world player prefers for the moment to think “of recovering, of decompressing and of sleeping”.

“Today, it is true, the desire for taking again a racket is still not there! ”, she starts by acknowledging. In connection with her choice not to dispute the last Grand Slam of this season, the player does not seek to be justified. She simply affirms to have listened to her body. “I wanted a true need and true to empty me the head. I well recovered, decompressed and slept. Mentally, that made me an enormous good!”

Being then her return on the courts, the protégée of Loïc Courteau prefers work carried out with Xavier Moreau, her physical preparer, rather than to announce a date in particular. When she feels better, she will play again, she says. “For the physique, one will work thoroughly. I asked Xavier to fix some thing of more serious in the weeks which are able to finally make all the job of rehabilitation which was pushed back a long time, after Roland-Garros, after Wimbledon, and even after the Fed Cup. And for tennis, one will see, they are always open…”

Dead end on the US Open

- Impasse sur l'US Open :
15/08/2007

Dès la semaine prochaine, Xavier viendra me rejoindre.

- Dead end on the US Open:
15/08/2007

Today Wednesday, Amélie has just made her decision not to go to play the US Open …

Amélie: “As I expressed a few weeks ago, I need to take time necessary to find the desire and to be able to be on my best level as of the recovery. Since my absence, I continue to maintain to me in form on the physical level. As of the next week, Xavier will come to join me. I benefit from this period particularly to stress a rehabilitation of the adductors (Installation by the doc' Gilles Daubinet) which have posed not badly concern to me for one year. Side tennis, I still did not take again the racket, under these conditions, to take part in US Open would not be serious for an objective of title.” Concerning the continuation, Amélie is programmed to play the tournament of Bejing and to continue on the indoor tournaments.

Amelie Mauresmo withdraws from U.S. Open

Two-time major champion Amelie Mauresmo pulled out of the U.S. Open on Wednesday, citing a groin injury and the need to recover fully from the appendectomy she had in March.
Mauresmo hasn't played in a tournament since losing in the fourth round at Wimbledon on July 3, although she did participate in France's Fed Cup semifinal July 14-15.

She put at least part of the blame for her third-round loss at the French Open in June on the groin problem.

"My doctor has recommended that I allow myself additional time to rest and recover from this injury so that it is completely healed," Mauresmo said in a statement released by the WTA Tour. "Obviously, this is one of the worst times of the year for me to have an injury."

Mauresmo, formerly ranked No. 1 and now No. 7, won the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2006. She reached the quarterfinals or semifinals at the U.S. Open each of the past six years.

Amélie withdraws from Toronto & New Haven

Un peu de temps... :
06/08/2007

translation from wtaworld

She needs more time to get her game together. She had a long talk with her coach (Loïc) and she doesn't feel the need to rush back into the thick of things.

I wonder what the fines will be like for Amélie?

"I'm very sad to withdraw from two upcoming events, the Rogers Cup in Toronto and Pilot Pen Tennis in New Haven," Mauresmo said in a statement released by the tournament. "After rushing back from appendicitis, I rushed back too quickly because there was a lot at stake for me. Unfortunately my body did not cooperate. Now I am listening to my body and taking some time off to get back to a better and stronger competing shape."

Amelie has come back from her holidays

Au grand large ! :
04/08/2007

This means, in short, that Amelie has come back from her holidays where she only rested.

Some days ago, Amelie started again with some physical activities (footings and riding the bike) to stay in shape. In the next days she'll make the point with Loïc to set up a date when to restart with tennis training.
