Tennis - Fed Cup - Mauresmo still says NO

Amelie Mauresmo has not changed her mind. Even officially called by the coach Georges Goven to compete in the first round of the Fed Cup in China on 2 and 3 February, the Frenchwoman confirmed Friday that she would not, according to the newspaper L'Equipe. After a 2007 season marred by injuries and an early season difficult 2008 season, Mauresmo (18e World) has decided to give priority to her individual to try to rejoin the top 10.

Another question mark before this perilous trip: participation or not Marion Bartoli, who also had announced would be exempt from this meeting. The fate of Tatiana Golovin also remains unknown, since the player, injured her back, did not know whether she would be able to take her place.

Mauresmo, Bartoli told to play Fed Cup

Amelie Mauresmo and Marion Bartoli have been selected to play a Fed Cup tie for France despite saying they wanted to be left out.

Former world No.1 Mauresmo and last year's Wimbledon finalist Bartoli have been picked by captain Georges Goven for the February 2-3 first-round tie against China in Beijing.

Mauresmo had said she would rather concentrate on getting back to her best after injury worries. Bartoli said she would only play if her father and coach, Walter, could come along, which Goven refused.

"The France team defends values, principles and must have absolute priority," said Goven in a statement after also calling up Nathalie Dechy and Virginie Razzano.

"The captain must be able to pick the best possible team and must be guided by the team's highest interest, not by what the players may wish."
